It’s possibly one of the easiest things you can do for an instant makeover, but a lash lift and tint may seem too good to be true for some. It’s also a little weird having someone right up in your space, millimeters from your face if you’re not used to it (rest assured your eyes are closed for the entire process, so no awkward stares). We often get asked if it will cause damage to the natural lashes and ‘How on earth does it work!?’. Well, Browz & Beauty Squad, we are here to set the record straight.
What is involved in a lash lift and tint?
The best way to describe a lash lift is to compare it to a hair perm; we are giving you a long-lasting curl for the lashes. The technician will pop some silicone patches into your eyelids and comb the lashes into place before applying an eye-safe perming solution. The solution breaks down the bonds in the eyelash which allows it to change shape. After just a few minutes, a setting solution will be applied to lock that curl in! A lash tint is similar to your brow tint (or a really good, long-lasting mascara that you can sleep in for weeks without it budging.
Is a lash lift and tint better than lash extensions?
That really depends on what you want out of it. Do you want extra length and volume? If so, lash extensions are great. Do you just want to enhance your natural lashes for a little extra somethin’-somethin’? Give a lash lift and tint a go!
Lash extensions involve artificial eyelashes being glued to your natural ones, using a special glue. Anywhere between 80 to 150 lashes can be applied per eye, so it really makes for a full flutter look. The results usually last anywhere between 2-4 weeks, depending on how well you care for them and your natural lash-shedding cycle (which you can read more about here). The technician can take between 1-2 hours to apply lash extensions.
A lash lift and tint, on the other hand, takes approximately 45 minutes and carries a lower cost for you. You will need to have your lift and tint done once every 4-8 weeks (this varies from person to person). Will a lash lift and tint ruin my natural lashes?
In short, the answer is no. Obviously, we aren’t with you 24 hours a day, so we don’t know if you play with your lashes, whether you regularly wash them, what you wash them with or how you treat them… But if you’re nice to them and let them just ‘be’ after a lash lift and tint, they will ‘be’ pretty damn good. Your natural lashes will remain strong and healthy, if the lash lift and tint is performed correctly (in other words, make sure you have an amazing lift and tint technician… you know where to find us).
Here are a few more handy tips when it comes to getting a lash lift and tint:
1. Your eyes will be closed for a while. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before the treatment if you can. You can still have the treatment done with your lenses in. We just find that closing our eyes for long periods of time with contacts in can cause dryness and irritability
2. Be aware of the ingredients in the perming and setting solutions before having the treatment done, to ensure you don’t have any allergies or nasty reactions
3. Do your research. P-L-E-A-S-E, find a technician who knows what they’re doing and who is reputable. Even if it’s not us you choose (sad face), having a well-trained and experienced technician perform the process is essential. It’s not worth just going for the cheapest option when it comes to working with the eyes. 4. Don’t play with your lifted/tinted lashes – let them be. They’ll appreciate the space you give them and last longer
5. Avoid water, makeup, cleansing products, and humidity for the first 24 hours after a lash lift and tint. They can break down the solutions used on your lash
