How to get your best skin this Summer

Whether it’s the absence of that radiant glow, battling stubborn congestion, grappling with those pesky fine lines and wrinkles, dealing with dehydrated skin, or wrestling with persistent breakouts – we’re all too familiar with those moments when our skin isn’t at its prime. It’s not just physically uncomfortable, but emotionally draining too, especially when we’ve put in considerable effort and money with minimal payoff. The good news? Navigating skincare doesn’t need to be a convoluted affair – in fact, we’re here to share our top ten tips for achieving your best skin without the need for pricey products or intricate routines. In our book, simplicity reigns supreme.

Sunscreen. Every single day

We get it – we might sound like a broken record going on and on about the importance of wearing sunscreen. But trust us, lovelies, if you’re not slathering it on every day, you’re not doing yourself any favors. Need convincing? Set up a UV camera assessment for your face, and you’ll be gobsmacked by the sun damage lurking there. If there’s one thing that can jolt you into a daily sunscreen routine, it’s probably that sight. Sun damage isn’t just about aging your skin faster; it brings on pigmentation, sun spots, and a bunch of other uncool stuff. And let’s not forget the scary prospect of skin cancers. So, do us all a favor, grab that sunscreen, and make it a daily ritual. Oh, and before you do, always give those ingredients a quick once-over – not all sunscreens out there are your skin’s BFF (go for the natural ones, seriously).

You are what you eat

Ever noticed that on the days you indulge consistently with highly processed junk/sugary foods, you end up feeling really ick and flat? On the other hand, when you have a really good day of eating your fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins and healthy fats, you feel like you could conquer the world? It’s the same as consuming alcohol (we’ve all been there with hangovers – no judgement here). Well your skin feels the same way – wonderful when you’re eating right, but awful when you’re not… And it shows. Nourish your body with the good stuff, and watch your skin transform (margaritas and the inevitable constant eating over the Christmas and New Year break don’t count 😉).

Drink your water

Drinking lots of water helps the body flush out toxins (which could otherwise impact your skin!). Just take a water bottle everywhere you go and sip on it throughout the day. Before you know it, you’ll have consumed 2 litres and your body will remain hydrated throughout the day. The more hydrated you are, the more hydrated your skin can be.

Cleanse morning and night

Always apply makeup (or whatever products you wear in the day) on a clean surface. If you’re not cleansing in the morning, you’re just going to keep building up layers of dirt and debris, creating more congestion and break outs. Give your skin the chance to start fresh each day. Cleansing at night before you lay down on your pillow is also critical. You should be removing your make up first, then cleansing over your sink/in the shower, or cleanse twice to make sure all the makeup/debris is properly removed. This matters, beauties!

Change your pillow case often (and upgrade to silk!)

Your pillow case gets dirty so fast. ven if you hop into bed with a freshly washed face, the truth is, our skin sheds a lot of dead cells while we sleep. Plus, there are the natural oils and bacteria that end up on the pillow. But here’s where Browz & Beauty HQ steps in – our silk pillows are the game-changers you’ve been waiting for. They’re not only proven to stay cleaner for longer (thanks to their ability to absorb less moisture, oils, and bacteria compared to cotton), but they also work wonders in preventing wrinkles and maintaining skin hydration (since your skincare products stay put on your skin, not your pillow). And just a quick tip: if you switch to silk, don’t forget to swap out your pillowcase every 7-10 days for the best results.

Minimise stress

Yeah sure, because it’s that easy, right? No, we do appreciate that stress is inevitable sometimes, but having little practices in place when you feel the stress coming on is really important. Stress impacts your overall health in so many ways, and it shows on your skin through inflammation, decreased blood flow to the skin and delayed skin healing. Consider making time for stress relieving events – whether it’s having a solid wind-down routine before bed, yoga, mindfulness or breathwork – even just block out times in your calendar where you sit in silence out in nature… whatever makes you feel calm and relaxed, do that – and do it often.

Prioritise sleep

You should aim for a minimum of 7 hours sleep per night if you can, but obviously everyone’s situation is different and not everyone can do that. If you can’t increase your overnight sleep, focus on improving your quality of sleep. There are some great apps you can get to track your sleep quality and they give wonderful tips on how to improve yours.

Facials are worth every cent

Whatever your situation, there is likely a Facial to help. This is especially important if you often forget your skincare cleansing/moisturising practices, as you will experience anywhere from 30-60 minutes of focus on your problem areas. Rose Gua Sha Facials are also an amazing option for when you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, as this has benefits in relaxing the skin and boosting blood circulation. We offer a beautiful range of Facials at your nearest Browz & Beauty Salon in Canberra and Adelaide. You can learn more about our Facials here.

Taking care of your skin is important, but it doesn’t need to be super complicated. Implementing these tips won’t take much time, effort or money, but you will definitely see a difference within a short period of time. Try not to fall into the trap of spending hundreds of dollars you don’t have on serums that promise impeccable skin – especially if you haven’t given the above tips a few consistent months first. Want to know more about the Facials we offer? Pop into your nearest Browz & Beauty Salon in Canberra (Woden or Belconnen) or Adelaide (Marion) today and chat to one of our beauticians.
